Introduction- The displacement or prolapse of the intestine from its place is called hernia. Sometimes it descends into the testicle and sometimes it slips below the pelvis or navel. It is of many types according to the place such as stagulated, umbellic etc. When the intestine separates from its place, the patient experiences a lot of pain and suffering. It is also called protrusion of the small intestine. Especially in men, it comes out of the inguinal canal and reaches the testicle. In women, it remains as a swelling below the inguinal ligament. A special feature of this swelling is that it disappears by pressing from below and comes back on releasing it. In this disease, one should eat as little food as possible. It does not cause constipation. Keep in mind that one should not exert force while defecating because it causes the intestine to slip even more. Hernia disease can occur in both men and women. This disease is of 3 types-
- Inguinal hernia
- Umbilical hernia
- Femoral hernia
Inguinal hernia- This type of hernia disease occurs in the thigh joint and in this the testicles slip into the testicles with the help of the thin tube of the thigh. Such a condition mostly occurs before birth. The size of the organ affected by hernia increases due to slipping into the testicles. Due to swelling in the testicles, it becomes difficult to differentiate between hernia and hydrocele. This is mostly an external hernia and is generally found in men. About 70 percent of hernias are of this type. Umbilical hernia- This is also a form of a common hernia. The incidence of this hernia disease is 8 to 10 percent. It occurs at the time of birth or in infancy. It occurs to an obese person or one whose abdominal muscles are weak or to an older person. In this, the hernia sac emerges from the navel because this is the weakest abdominal muscle. Femoral hernia- This hernia occurs in 20 percent of people. This disease occurs more in women than in men. In this disease, the contents of the stomach come out through the mouth located in the artery in front of the thigh going to the leg. This artery supplies blood to the leg. Cause- Hernia disease occurs due to many reasons. This disease occurs due to congenital weakness of abdominal muscles or nerves or in the initial stage of development in the child. When a man or woman lifts a heavy object with a jerk without being careful, then the muscles and nerves tear and hernia emerges. Hernia is caused due to such a condition of the stomach in which the pressure inside the stomach increases. Hernia is caused due to prostate gland in old people, obstruction in the urinary tract, cough in a person who smokes and excessive constipation. Hernia is also caused due to sitting in the same position always, lack of physical exercise, weakness of stomach muscles, obesity and eating more than required. In such conditions, the muscles of the stomach start putting pressure downwards due to which the stomach comes out completely.
Hernia is also caused due to increased pressure in the stomach during pregnancy and delivery (child birth). Treatment of disease by Yogic Kriya- Hernia is cured by Yoga practice. This is a very beneficial practice and all hernia patients should practice it daily. Shatkriya (Hatha Yoga Kriya) In this disease, do Neti Kriya and practice Laghu Shankh Prakshalan Kriya once a week. Practice yogic exercises for chest, stomach, waist and legs- Posture: Pawan Muktasana or Uttanpadasana or Sarvangasana or Paschimotana Asana or Matsyasana or Vrajasana or Shashankasana. Practice any one of these asanas. Money and bonds: In this, practice Ashwini Mudra or Vajroli Mudra or Mula Bandha. Pranayama: Practice Bhastrika Pranayam or Anulom-Vilom Pranayam along with Bhramari Pranayam or Antar Kumbhaka. Time: Do this yoga exercise daily for 30 minutes. Observation: While practicing Pranayama, one should meditate on the stomach muscles, intestines, rectum, rectal muscles and anal canal.
Anupreksha (Thoughts of the mind): While breathing, think in the mind- "The muscles of the stomach are getting stronger and the disease is gradually getting cured." Special- In the Yogic Kriya mentioned for curing hernia, the practice of Shatkriya should be done carefully under the supervision of a Yoga therapist. While practicing Pranayam in this, one should meditate on the organs of the stomach and feel that it is getting cured.
