Health is generally defined as the state of absence of disease. The general definition of health is based only on the functioning of the body, which may sometimes be disrupted due to certain diseases. However, the definition of health is a partial concept that covers only the physical aspect. In this context, the meaning of health has been changing over time. In the year of 1948, it was fully defined by the (World Health Organization) WHO as "a state of complete and proper physical, proper mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity". Health today is a state of complete physical, mental, intellectual, emotional and social health and well-being. It involves the ability to adapt and cope with physical, mental and social challenges throughout life. Furthermore, man's ability to cope with stress and learn skills; And in addition to dealing with positive relationships. Generally, it is recognized that health status is strongly influenced by biological, socio-cultural, economic, and environmental forces. The ability to access basic needs such as food, safe drinking water supply, housing, sanitation, health services, and positive socio-cultural, economic, and environmental environments affects the health status of a population.
Health and Its Dimensions
Health means a proper healthy body and a proper healthy mind. It is
multidimensional and includes physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual
and environmental dimensions. These dimensions are interrelated.
Physical Dimensions
The physical dimension refers to the ability of the human body to function
well. These include exercise, healthy habits, controlled diet, bone health and
BMI. We can maintain a healthy body by proper nutrition, exercise and avoiding
some harmful habits like substance abuse. It is healthier to consume nutritious
foods and beverages that promote good health rather than consuming nutritious
foods and beverages that promote poor health. Physical health means the ability
to maintain a quality of life from various types of methods that enables a
person to carry out various types of daily activities without unnecessary
fatigue or physical strain. Optimal physical health really means building
strength and flexibility and coordination ability and stamina, as well as taking
safety precautions such as medical self-care and wise use of medical
systems—not to mention protecting yourself from injuries and harm. Just leave
it. All of this requires personal responsibility and vigilance with respect to
disease prevention, care of minor ailments, and knowledge of what the
professional field of medicine entails. Keeping fit and feeling good physically
often has the psychological benefits of increased self-esteem, self-control,
determination, and sense of direction.
Mental Dimension
Mental health is the cognitive aspect of health that includes thinking,
reasoning, remembering, imagining, and learning words. The cognitive aspect is
the relationship between the processes of perception, memory, judgment, and
reasoning, as opposed to emotional processes. It refers to the possibility of
human beings to use their brain and think, process information and act
correctly. It is our ability to master new skills, embrace humor and
creativity. Healthy mental health plays an important role in building our daily
life routine. It helps individuals to become complete. To stimulate our mental
health, we engage in various activities such as asking critical questions,
engaging in creative and problem-solving activities. The result of healthy
mental health is that it increases self-esteem and leads to confidence in
social situations. A good mental health mainly depends on increased physical
activities. Sports and games keep us mentally active when participated
regularly.
How do we stay healthy?
•Healthy diet: Much is known about the connection between what we eat and how
we feel. A 'healthy diet' is one that contains all the nutrients we need, and
provides us with the right amount of calories to maintain a healthy weight.
•Talk about emotions: If we are feeling stressed, talking about our emotions
helps us keep our mental state healthy.
• Do whatever games and sports you like: Do you like to play? Playing hockey,
cricket, chess or any other sport or activity that you like or are good at,
boosts your self-esteem. This makes it easier for you to concentrate, sleep,
look and even feel good. Enjoying sports also helps in overcoming stress.
• Adequate sleep: A few hours a day are needed to refresh the body and mind.
Everyone should sleep for about eight hours. And this factor mostly applies to
children.
• Friends and family become friends: You can find love from your friends and
family. They provide a variety of views on your problems and the stress you
feel in that situation. This will ultimately help you gain a better
understanding of the problem or situation, so problems will be resolved.
• Get help: None of us are perfect in every way. We all face problems sometimes, when things go wrong or we get tired. But if you feel that you really can't cope with the situation and things are becoming too much, don't hesitate to seek help.
• Do not drink tobacco or alcohol: Disease occurs in proportion to the amount
of tobacco and alcohol consumed. In such cases it is easy to say 'no' to your
friends.
Social Dimension
This dimension of health includes the individual's ability to connect with
other people in their socio-cultural environment. The ability to interact with
other people so that we can maintain good relationships. Good social health not
only keeps the individual in good relations but also ensures that he behaves
accordingly and maintains socially acceptable standards. Therefore, it focuses
on healthy and supportive relationships with family, neighborhood, friends,
peers, teachers, and community members. Good communication skills help in
building good relationships. These types of relationships have the greatest
various types of impact on a person's life. Social health also impacts almost
all other aspects of health in many ways. A poor social life mainly makes the
person feel that he has no goals to move forward in life, nor does he need
people around him. Such feelings motivate people to participate in physical
activities and push them into depression.
Emotional Dimension
The emotional dimension of health is the ability to cope, adjust and adapt to
our environment. But still, people with positive mindset are more successful.
In fact it is a very commonly used saying that 'people become the kind of
person they are like their friends'. It simply means that friends and other
people who live together in the immediate environment play a very important
role in personality development as well as emotional well-being. Some ways that
can help maintain stable emotional well-being are: reading inspirational books,
setting goals, teaching overcoming setbacks, and developing the qualities of
hope, enthusiasm, and optimism.
Spiritual Dimension
Different systems of belief exist around the world. According to spiritual
beliefs, people will be motivated to focus on their values and beliefs and,
in general, a general sense of overall purpose in life. A large percentage of
people find purpose in life through these belief systems or faith. Some people
have created their own worship methods. A person who has a purpose in life is healthier
than those who do not have such a purpose. Spiritual health easily impacts
emotional and mental health because of the simple fact that having purpose in
life enables you to apply yourself to achieve your objectives. Achieving
something in life through willpower helps people maintain proper outlook in
life and overcome adverse situations. This, in many ways, is accomplished
around its purpose through regular spiritual inspiration in a manner of
spiritual commitment that helps improve societal health.
Environmental Dimensions
Environmental health inspires us to live a healthy life in the interest of our environment. It inspires us to live in a harmonious relationship with nature, by taking all precautionary measures in its favor. Our environment includes both internal and external factors. The environment around us such as our place of residence, business, where we work and live, the level of pollution are part of our external environment. A healthy planet results in healthy inhabitants. This internal environment is the makeup that the individual develops within himself as a genetic structure, which is, as it were, fundamental to determining the well-being and health of the human being. Family, friends, neighborhood, community, housing, and other environmental factors all influence our health. In fact, respect for nature and all living beings in it is the philosophy of environmental well-being. No movement or organization will ask you to join it, but the philosophy asks you to adopt habits that will result in a healthy environment. This means you'll be aware of how much your daily habits are affecting the environment the moment you open your eyes and start paying attention to your surroundings. A variety of simple improvements toward environmental health contribute to a more balanced lifestyle around the world.
