Frost Bite Treatment

 


Introduction:-

In case of frostbite attack, blood circulation slows down towards the face, hands and feet. Ice crystals form in the body tissues due to prolonged exposure to cold climate. The body tissue temperature falls below 5 degrees centigrade.
It is a local disease, due to which the water content in the cells is reduced and the cells become dead.

Symptoms:-

  • In this disease, the affected part becomes cold, hard and white, with lack of response by touching them.
  • Red marks fall on the affected part after giving heat to that part.
  • The part which is affected by frostbite, pain along with swelling comes in that part.
  • Also, boils appear on the affected part, the skin turns blue.


Precautionary:-

A person who is suffering from frostbite attack should first of all be placed in a survival bag.

Keep the patient dry at all times.

His pulse and breathing should be tested from time to time.

If a person is conscious, he should be given any warm drink after adding sugar to it.

An attempt should be made to warm the affected part by pressing it.


The patient should be covered with warm clothes or blankets to provide warmth to the patient.

The affected part of the patient should be kept in warm water about 40-42 degrees centigrade for several minutes.

All wet clothes on the affected part should be removed as it may slow down the blood circulation.


The affected part should not be pressed and rubbed.

The boils should neither be burst nor ointment should be applied.

The affected part should be protected from steam.

The patient should put on warm clothes before going to any cold place.

The hands and feet should be covered with woolen globes.

Consciousness:-

  • In case of frostbite attack, it is taken about 3 weeks to find out whether the cells are alive or dead.
  • The affected part is taken about 6 to 12 months for recovery.
