Introduction
Sesame is used more in food during winter season. Sesame is of three types based on its colour. Red, black and white. Black sesame is considered good for medicine. Sesame and sugar are used to make Rewadi. Sesame is cultivated in large quantities in India. Sesame is cultivated independently or mixed with any crop like cotton, pigeon pea, millet and groundnut. India has a prominent place in the field of sesame production.
Sesame oil – Sesame oil is heavy, moist and hot. It increases strength in the body, cleans stool, improves body complexion, increases sexual power, sesame oil destroys phlegm, air and bile, removes bloody bile, cleans and purifies the uterus, increases appetite and sharpens the intellect. It cures diabetes, earache, vaginal pain and brain pain.
Properties
Sesame destroys phlegm, bile, increases strength, cures diseases of the head, increases milk, cures wounds, dental diseases and reduces urine flow. It is beneficial in increasing digestion power and eliminating Vata. Black sesame is good and increases semen. According to scholars, white sesame is of medium quality and red sesame is less beneficial. Consuming sesame mixed with old jaggery removes the deficiency of semen and the complaint of gas in the stomach.
Harmful effects
Sesame should not be fed to a pregnant woman as there is a possibility of miscarriage.
