Introduction
The nutmeg tree is quite large. It is believed to have 80 species. A total of 30 species are found in India and Maldives. Nutmeg is originally a tree of the island of Malacca situated in the east of the continent of Asia. There are two types of nutmeg trees, male and female. The flowers of the female species of nutmeg come on small clusters and the leaves are as broad as spears. The leaves of the male species of nutmeg are large and are called Myristica macrophylla in English. Crushing these leaves gives some fragrance. These trees have flowers but no calyx.
Harmful effects
Using nutmeg in excess quantity produces an intoxicating effect. Apart from this, it can cause delirium, dizziness, infertility, impotence due to thinning of semen, adverse effects on liver and lungs, headache and even unconsciousness. People with hot nature should not consume it.
Treatment for various diseases
1. Hiccups:
Grate nutmeg in basil juice and eat it 3 times a day in the quantity of one spoon. This stops hiccups. Grate nutmeg in water used for washing rice and drink it, this stops hiccups and vomiting.
2. Headache:
Grate nutmeg in raw milk and apply it on the head. This will give a lot of relief. If there is a headache, then rub nutmeg in water and apply it on the forehead like a paste, this will cure the headache.
3. Mouth ulcers:
Gargle 3-4 times with the decoction of nutmeg. This will cure mouth ulcers. Ulcers are cured by gargling with nutmeg juice mixed in water.
4. Diarrhea in children:
Grate nutmeg in water and give half a teaspoon of this 2-3 times a day. This stops diarrhea in children.
5. Diarrhea:
Grate nutmeg in water and drink it as a dose during the day to get relief from diarrhea in children caused by cold.
Mixing jaggery in nutmeg and making small pills and eating 1 pill after every 2 hours cures diarrhea caused by constipation and indigestion.
Grate nutmeg in water, then mix ground fennel in it well. Giving it with water to small children 2 to 3 times a day as a dose stops diarrhea i.e. continuous passing of stool.
Drink 1 gram of nutmeg powder with half a cup of water in the morning and evening. This stops bloating, stomach ache and loose stools.
Mix 1 gram of nutmeg, 1 gram of saffron and 1 gram of taj, 480 mg of small cardamom, 480 mg of clove, 5 grams of chalky soil and 9 grams of sugar and prepare a powder. Licking this powder cures diarrhea.
Roasting nutmeg and consuming it in the amount of 240 mg to 960 mg is beneficial. Keep in mind that consuming more than this amount can cause dizziness and unconsciousness (sanyaas).
Licking fine powder of nutmeg with ghee and sugar is beneficial in dysentery.
Grating nutmeg and licking it provides relief from diarrhea that occurs during teething in children.
Consuming ground powder of nutmeg in the amount of about 500 mg to 1 gram cures diarrhea.
6. Sleeplessness:
Grate nutmeg in cow ghee and apply it on the soles of the feet and eyelids, this will induce good sleep.
Grate nutmeg in water or ghee and apply it as a paste on the eyelids to induce sleep quickly.
7. Cold and cough:
Grate nutmeg in water and make a paste. Applying this paste on the nose, nostrils and chest will provide quick relief. Also, mix nutmeg powder in equal quantity to dry ginger powder and feed one-fourth teaspoon of it twice a day. This cures cold and cough.
Taking a pinch of ground nutmeg and mixing it in milk cures the effects of cold. Consuming it in winter prevents cold.
8. Pimples:
Grate nutmeg in raw milk and apply it on the entire face every morning and night. Apart from pimples, this will also remove dark spots from the face and brighten the face.
9. Gas and constipation problems:
Grate nutmeg in lemon juice and consume it in the amount of 2 teaspoons in the morning and evening after meals to get rid of gas and constipation problems.
10. Bad breath and dullness of mouth:
Sucking small pieces of nutmeg 2-3 times a day removes bad breath and dullness of mouth.
Chewing 240 to 360 milligrams of nutmeg pieces removes bad breath. Its consumption can cause symptoms of dizziness and fainting.
11. Toothache:
Applying nutmeg oil with cotton on the root of the tooth and pressing the empty part with cotton wool will give relief from pain.
12. Backache:
Eat a piece of nutmeg in betel leaf and massage the paste made by rubbing nutmeg in water on the waist while it is still hot. This ends the backache.
Grate nutmeg and apply its paste on the waist at night to get rid of backache.
Grate nutmeg on a stone with water. Then heat it well in 200 ml sesame oil. Massage the waist after it cools down. This gives relief from waist pain.
13. If the child is not able to digest milk:
If the child is not able to digest milk after being weaned from the mother's milk, then add a nutmeg in the milk and boil it well. Then cool it and feed it. This will help in digesting the milk easily and the stool will be odorless.
14. Loss of appetite:
Feed one gram of nutmeg powder with honey in the morning and evening. This stops the feeling of hunger.
15. Joint pain:
Mix one part nutmeg oil and four parts mustard oil and massage the joint pain, swelling, sprain 2-3 times. This will give relief.
16. Impotence and premature ejaculation:
Eat one-fourth teaspoon of nutmeg powder with honey in the morning and evening and mix its oil with mustard oil and rub it on the penis. This cures impotence and premature ejaculation.
Eating half gram of nutmeg powder with water in the evening will cure semen deficiency and sexual weakness within 6 weeks.
17. Weakness:
Mix 10-10 grams of nutmeg and mace and 50 grams of ashwagandha and grind them. Take one spoon each with milk regularly in the morning and evening.
18. Wound:
Make an ointment of nutmeg oil and apply it on the wound. This will give relief in the wound.
19. Tooth worms:
Putting nutmeg oil under the teeth kills tooth worms and also ends the pain.
20. Eye infection:
Grind nutmeg and mix it with milk and apply it in the eyes in the morning and evening.
21. Asthma:
Taking approximately one gram of Jatiphaladi powder with one gram of water in the morning and evening cures asthma.
Taking one gram of nutmeg and one gram of clove powder mixed with 3 grams of honey and one ratti of Bangbhasma is beneficial in breathing problems.
