Properties Of Ginger And Ayurvedic Treatments From It

 


Introduction

Ginger is generally used in every household to make food tasty and easy to digest. Although it is grown in all the states, but most of the production is done in the state of Kerala.
The tuber that grows inside the ground is called ginger in wet state and dry ginger in dry state. By pressing it in wet soil, it remains fresh for a long time. Its tuber is light yellow, multi-sectioned and fragrant.

Properties

Due to the many medicinal properties of ginger, it is considered a great medicine in Ayurveda. It is hot, sharp, heavy, sweet in taste, increases appetite, digestive, pungent, tasty, free from tridosha i.e. destroyer of vata, pitta and kapha.


According to scientists, 80 percent of the chemical composition of ginger is water, whereas its quantity in dry ginger is about 10 percent. Apart from this, starch 53%, protein 12.4%, fiber 7.2%, ash 6.6%, essential oil 1.8% and othioresin are mainly found in dry ginger.


Protein, nitrogen, amino acids, starch, glucose, sucrose, fructose, aromatic oil, oleoresin, gingivine, raffinose, calcium, vitamins B and C, proteolytic enzymes and iron are also found in dry ginger. Due to proteolytic enzymes, dry ginger has proved to be especially beneficial in removing phlegm and in the digestive system.


Harmful effects

Due to the hot nature of ginger, people who cannot digest hot food in summer, leprosy, jaundice, hematemesis, wounds, fever, bleeding from the body, dysuria, burning sensation etc. should not consume it. Ginger should not be consumed in case of vomiting blood and in summer season and if required, it should be used in minimum quantity.


Treatment for various diseases

1. Hiccups:

In all types of hiccups, a small piece of cleaned ginger should be sucked. Hiccups stop soon by sucking a small piece of ginger. Hiccups stop by smelling grinded rock salt mixed in ghee or water.
Hiccups are cured by taking one spoon of ginger juice and mixing it in 250 ml of fresh cow milk.

Hiccups are cured by boiling a cup of milk and adding half spoon of dry ginger powder in it and drink it after cooling it.
By cutting fresh ginger into small pieces and sucking it, old, new and continuous hiccups stop. This is a natural remedy to cure all types of incurable hiccups.

2. Stomach ache:

Grind ginger and garlic in equal quantity and consume it in the quantity of one spoon with water.
Taking one gram of ground dry ginger, a little asafoetida and a pinch of rock salt with warm water cures stomach ache. Drinking one teaspoon of ground dry ginger and rock salt heated in a glass of water cures stomach ache, constipation and indigestion.

Taking half a tola of ginger and mint juice, adding one gram of rock salt in it and drinking it gives instant relief from stomach ache. Giving 2 teaspoons each of ginger juice and basil leaf juice with a little warm water calms down stomach ache.


Putting a little carom seeds in a cup of warm water and adding 2 teaspoons of ginger juice and drinking it gives relief. Mixing lemon juice in ginger juice and adding ground black pepper powder on it and licking it gives relief from stomach ache.
Mixing 5 ml ginger juice, 5 ml lemon juice and 1 gram black pepper powder and drinking it ends stomach ache.

3. Bad breath:

Mix one teaspoon ginger juice in a glass of warm water and rinse it to get rid of bad breath.

4. Toothache:

Mix finely ground rock salt in ginger juice and apply on the aching tooth. In case of sudden toothache, peel small pieces of ginger and press them under the aching tooth. Pressing pieces of ginger between teeth is beneficial in toothache caused by cold.


5. Lack of appetite:


Soak small pieces of ginger in lemon juice and add rock salt to it, feed it regularly before eating. Boil equal amounts of jaggery, ginger, lemon juice, celery, turmeric in water and then strain it and feed it.


6. Sore throat:

Mix ginger, cloves, asafoetida and salt and grind them and prepare small tablets. Suck one tablet 3-4 times a day.

7. Paralysis:

Fry urad dal in ghee, mix half the quantity of jaggery and dry ginger and grind it.
Feed it thrice a day in the quantity of two spoons. Grind urad dal and roast it in ghee, then grind jaggery and dry ginger in it and mix it and make laddus and keep them. Eat one laddu daily or boil dry ginger and urad and drink their water. This also cures paralysis.

8. Burning of stomach and chest:

Mix two spoons of ginger juice and one spoon of mint juice in a glass of sugarcane juice and drink it. 9. Vata and back pain: Mix ginger juice in coconut oil and massage and mix dry ginger in deshi ghee and feed. 10. Rib pain: Boil 30 grams dry ginger in half a kilo of water, filter it and drink it 4 times to get rid of rib pain. 11. Injury, crushing: In case of injury, lifting heavy object or crushing, grind ginger and heat it, apply a half inch thick paste on the affected area and tie a bandage. Remove the bandage after two hours and apply mustard oil over it and warm it. Doing this experiment once a day relieves the pain soon. 12. Sponge Diarrhea: Make a decoction with water by taking equal parts of dry ginger, nagarmotha, atis, giloy. Drinking this decoction in the morning and evening gives relief. 13. Duhni (Diarrhea): Make a decoction of Giloy, Atis, Sonth and Nagarmotha and give 20 to 25 ml twice a day.

14. Appetite enhancer:

Eating two grams of dry ginger powder with ghee or only dry ginger powder with warm water every morning increases appetite. Eating salt and ginger chutney before meals purifies the tongue and throat and increases appetite. Eating ginger pickle increases appetite.

Pak (decoction) of dry ginger and pittapapda provides relief in fever and increases appetite. Consume it in the amount of five to ten grams daily. Consuming decoction of dry ginger, chiraita, nagarmotha, giloy increases appetite and is also beneficial in fever.


15. Indigestion:

If there is a suspicion of indigestion (not digesting dinner) in the morning, then take the powder of harad, dry ginger and rock salt with water. Eat a little food in the afternoon or evening. Collect the powders of carom seeds, rock salt, harad, dry ginger in equal quantities.
Consume one spoon of each daily. Drinking 10-20 ml ginger juice mixed with equal quantity of lemon juice cures poor digestion.

16. Abdominal (stomach) diseases:

Make paste of equal quantity of dry ginger, Haritaki, Baheda, Amla. Mix two and half kilograms of cow ghee and sesame oil, two and half kilograms of curd water, prepare ghee according to the method, when it is ready, filter it and keep it.
Consuming this ghee in the quantity of 10 to 20 grams in the morning and evening cures all types of stomach diseases.

17. Polyuria:

Mixing sugar candy in two spoons of ginger juice and consuming it in the morning and evening is beneficial.


18. Pain caused by piles:

Consuming any one of the combinations of Durlabha and Patha, Wood apple pulp and Patha, Celery and Patha or Dry ginger and Patha provides relief from pain caused by piles.

19. Difficulty in passing urine (difficulty in passing urine):


Boiling 2 grams each of dry ginger, root of Kateli, Bala root, Gokhru and 10 grams of jaggery in 250 ml milk and drinking it in the morning and evening cures the pain during passing urine and stool.
Grind dry ginger and filter it and mix mishri in milk and drink it.
