Properties And Differences Of Holy Basil (Tulsi) Plant

Generally, only two types of Tulsi are known which are called Rama and Shyama. The colour of Rama leaves is light due to which it is also called Gauri. Shyama or Krishna Tulsi leaves are dark in colour and have more expectorant properties.
Therefore, Krishna Tulsi is usually used as a medicine. Its smell and juice are sharp. There are many other species of Tulsi. One species is "Van Tulsi" which is also called 'Kathrak'. Its smell is less than that of domestic Tulsi and it has the ability to destroy the effect of poison. It is especially useful in the treatment of eye disorders, blood disorders, and natal diseases. The other species is called "Maruvak". While giving information about its benefits in Raja Martand Granth, it is written that its juice is beneficial in case of a cut by a weapon or a wound caused by rubbing. Its juice is also beneficial in case of a poisonous creature stinging. The third species is Barbari or Bubai Tulsi, the smell of its buds is very strong. Its seeds are considered to be highly aphrodisiac. They are used in many Hakimi prescriptions. The seeds of Barbari species of Tulsi are used to increase semen and remove thinness. Apart from these, there is also a vermin-killing species of Tulsi.

Why Tulsi is considered Amrit

Because Tulsi makes speech (mouth, throat, teeth, gums, windpipe and lungs), mind (heart, brain, nervous system) and body (from the toe to the hair on the head) healthy, pure, sattvik and clean.

Diseases are cured just by seeing Tulsi

An such disease-killing oil keeps flying in the atmosphere from the leaves and branches of Tulsi that hundreds of diseases are cured just by staying near it, touching it, planting a plant and offering water to it.
Its smell purifies all the ten directions and protects the living beings like a shield and armor.

'Tulsi' is more beneficial than neem and honey

It is written in 'Dyumpuraag' - "All the substances or medicines made from the pollen or juice of flowers and leaves around the world, half a leaf of Tulsi provides the most health benefits."

Lightning flashes and crackles in Tulsi

One of the names of Tulsi is also Vrinda, which means electrical power. That is why Tulsi is called Vrinda.

There is a tradition of wearing garlands, gajra, anklets and belts made of wood since centuries because they emit electric waves and do not let the blood circulation get obstructed.
Wearing a Tulsi gajra on the wrist prevents loss of fingers, numbness of hands and increases the strength of arms. Wearing a Tulsi belt on the waist prevents paralysis, disorders of waist, liver, spleen, stomach and genitals. Wearing Tulsi garland on the neck gives a melodious voice and the face remains fair and rosy. The garland hanging on the heart protects from diseases of lungs and heart.

Akaal Mrityuharan Sarvvyadhi-Vinashanam

The priests recite this mantra while giving Charanamrit because a handful of Charanamrit prepared by mixing Tulsi leaves protects from untimely death and destroys all diseases.

Even Yamdoots run away from Tulsi

The poison of centipede, snake, scorpion and mosquito also causes death, that is why they are called Yamdoots. If you plant Tulsi in your house, courtyard, roadside or lawn, snakes and scorpions will automatically run away from there.
This is why a house and courtyard having Tulsi is considered to be like a pilgrimage. Because diseases, grief, illusion and illness cannot stay there. It is said in the scriptures that Gods (good qualities) reside in the leaves and fibers of Tulsi. Therefore, Tulsi should be consumed daily while worshipping the Gods (accepting good qualities). The soil that comes in contact with hands, face, forehead or body during weeding of Tulsi plants eradicates all skin diseases from the root. Tulsi has many names which tell the history of its qualities. Some of its main names and qualities in Vedas, books of medicine and Puranas are as follows.
