Alum is called alum in English. It is actually potassium aluminum sulfate. It has many medicinal properties. In Ayurveda, it is used in many diseases. It is a blood purifier and hemostasis. It also works as an antiseptic and anti-bacterial. There are two types of alum, red and white. The properties of both are almost the same. White alum is mostly used. It is astringent, that is, it causes contraction. It is used locally (externally) on the skin of the body, nose, eyes, urinary tract and anus. Its internal use is beneficial in bleeding, diarrhea, whooping cough and asthma.
Know further the best uses of alum: -
- If you sweat a lot, then dissolve alum in bathing water and take a bath. Sweating will reduce.
- To remove wrinkles from the face, dip a piece of alum in water and rub it gently on the face. Wash it with plain water after it dries. Wrinkles will disappear in a few days.
- If there is bleeding from the gums, then dissolving alum in water and gargling with it cures it.
- If a poisonous insect or scorpion bites, then adding alum powder to water and making a thick solution and applying it gives relief.
- If there is bleeding from the gums, then dissolving alum in water and gargling with it cures it.

- If there is a toothache, grind alum and black pepper in equal quantities and apply it on the gum of the aching tooth. This reduces the pain.

- Washing the head with alum mixed water for a few days eliminates lice.
- In piles, mixing alum powder in butter and applying it on warts is very beneficial.
- If there is bleeding from the nose, dip a cotton in alum solution and put it in the nose, it stops the bleeding.
- For wounds, roast and grind alum, mix it in ghee and apply it on the wound, it heals the wound.
- After shaving or cutting hair, rub alum or wet it in water and apply it on the beard. This makes the skin of the beard beautiful and healthy.
- Where there are ants and termites, apply mustard oil and put alum there, ants and termites do not come there.

Treatment for various diseases
1. Enlargement of tonsils:
In case of enlargement of tonsils, add a pinch of alum and the same amount of salt in hot water and gargle.
Mixing salt or alum in warm water and putting that water inside the mouth and gargling with the head elevated is beneficial in diseases like throat murmur, tonsils (lump in the throat), growth of crow, etc.
Cook 5 grams alum and 5 grams blue vitriol well and mix 25 grams glycerine in it and keep it. Then make clean cotton and swab and put it inside the throat and drip saliva, it ends the swelling of tonsils.
2. Bleeding in wounds (bleeding from the wound):
If the wound is fresh, the wound has been caused by injury or scratch and bleeding is there. Wash such wound with alum water and grinding alum on the wound and sprinkling, applying and sprinkling its powder stops the bleeding (bleeding).
If bleeding is happening from anywhere in the body, then grinding one gram alum and mixing it with 125 grams curd and 250 ml water and making lassi and consuming it is very beneficial.
3. Wounds:
Heat alum on a pan and make it ash. Grind it and sprinkle it on the wounds, this will cure the wounds. Wash and clean the wounds with alum solution.
Make powder by taking 2 grams of roasted alum, 2 grams of vermilion and 4 grams of murdasang. Mix 120 milligrams of wax and 30 grams of ghee and cook it on low flame. Then take it down and mix the powder of other things well in it. Applying this prepared ointment on the wound cures all types of wounds.
Make powder of 5 grams of puffed alum and mix it in desi ghee, then apply it on the wound. This cures the wound.
Bleeding from any part of the body: Grind one gram of alum and mix it with 125 grams of curd and 250 ml of water to make lassi and drink it, bleeding from anywhere stops.
4. Nose Bleeding:
By dissolving alum in raw cow's milk and smelling it, nose bleeding is cured. If the nose bleeding does not stop, then dissolve alum in water and soak a cloth in it and keep it on the forehead. The bleeding will stop in 5-10 minutes. Dissolve a quarter teaspoon of alum in water and drink it three times a day.
If the nose is bleeding continuously, then by mixing 30 grams of alum in 100 ml of water and soaking a cloth in that water and keeping it on the forehead and nose, the bleeding from the nose stops.
By mixing alum in raw cow's milk and smelling it, the bleeding from the nose stops.
5. Slickness of the mouth:
Mixing black salt and alum in equal quantity, grinding it and brushing with its powder removes the stickiness of teeth and mouth.
6. Pain in eyes:
Soak one gram alum in 40 grams rose water and fill it in a bottle. Put two drops of it in the eyes daily. This will remove eye pain, dirt and redness. Putting it in the eyes at night before sleeping keeps them refreshed. You can put it daily.
7. Swelling of fingers:
If fingers get swollen or itchy due to working in water in winters, then boiling alum in water and washing fingers with it is beneficial.
Pyorrhea, pain in gums, swelling, bleeding: Grind one part salt and two parts alum finely and apply it on gums three times a day. Then add five grams alum in a glass of hot water, stir it and gargle. This will strengthen gums and teeth. This will stop bleeding and pus formation.
8. Teeth ache:
Mix roasted alum, mustard oil, rock salt, sal ammoniac, sambhar salt 10-10 grams and 6 grams borax and grind them finely and filter them through a cloth. Rubbing teeth with this cures toothache, shaking, tingling, swelling of gums, pus coming out of gums and pyorrhea.
Grind alum finely and make a powder. Brushing teeth with this daily cures toothache quickly.
Dissolving alum in warm water and gargling continuously gives quick relief from severe toothache.
9. Malaria fever:
Mix one gram alum and two grams sugar and give it twice every two hours before malaria fever comes. Malaria will not come and even if it comes, it will be less. Then when malaria is about to come the second time, give it in the same way. During this experiment, the patient should not have constipation. If constipation occurs, first remove it.
By putting about 1 gram alum in puffed batasha and feeding it to the patient 2 hours before fever comes, fever comes down.
10. Gonorrhoea:
Gonorrhoea causes burning sensation while urinating. In this, urine comes out drop by drop with great difficulty. The pain is so much that the patient prefers to die. In this, dissolve 6 grams of powdered alum in a glass of water and give it to the patient to drink. Gonorrhoea is cured by giving it for a few days.
11. Sweating in hands and feet:
If there is sweating, dissolve alum in water and wash hands and feet with it. This stops sweating.
12. Dry cough:
Grind about 10 grams of roasted alum and 100 grams of sugar finely and mix them together and make fourteen sachets of equal quantity. In dry cough, one sachet should be taken daily with 125 ml of hot milk before sleeping. This gives a lot of relief in dry cough.
13. Wet cough:
Grind 10 gm roasted alum and 100 gm sugar finely and mix them together and make 14 sachets of equal quantity. In dry cough, one sachet should be taken with 125 gm warm milk every day before sleeping and in wet cough, taking one sachet with 125 ml warm water every day gives relief in wet cough.
14. Abortion:
Putting quarter teaspoon of ground alum in one cup of raw milk and making lassi and drinking it stops abortion. If there is pain and bleeding during abortion, give one dose every two hours.
15. Infertility:
If a child is not being conceived even after menstruation is normal, then wrap alum in cotton wool, soak it in water and keep it in vagina at night while sleeping. When taken out in the morning, milk shavings will accumulate in the cotton wool. Keep the cotton wool till the shavings keep coming. When the itching stops, it should be understood that the infertility disease is cured.
16. If an ant enters the ear:
If an ant enters the ear and there is a tingling sensation in the ear, drinking alum dissolved in water is beneficial.
17. If a scorpion bites:
If a scorpion bites, grinding alum in water and applying it removes the scorpion poison.
18. Itching of genitals:
Mixing alum in hot water and washing the genitals with it gives relief in itching of the genitals.
19. Internal injury:
Grind four grams alum and mix it in half a kilo of cow's milk and give it to the patient to drink.
