Introduction
Tamarind tree is found all over India. Apart from this, it is found in America, Africa and many Asian countries. Tamarind trees are very big. Tamarind tree starts bearing fruits after 8 years. Tamarind ripens in the months of February and March. Tamarind is added to many things like Shaak (vegetable), dal, chutney etc. Due to the sour taste of tamarind, it cleans the mouth. Old tamarind is more beneficial than new tamarind. Shaak (vegetable) is made from tamarind leaves and chutney from flowers. Tamarind wood is very strong. Due to this, people also make axe handles etc. from its wood.
Harmful effects
Raw tamarind is heavy, hot and very sour. Those who are not compatible with tamarind, can also have side effects like souring of teeth, headache and jaw pain, breathing problems, cough and fever from ripe tamarind.
Treatment for various diseases
1. Gomerrhoea:
Mix 6 grams of tamarind bark ash with about 55 grams of raw kernel and consume it morning and evening for 5-6 days.
Soak 125 grams of tamarind seeds in 250 ml milk. After 3 days, peel it, clean it and grind it. Taking it in the amount of 6 grams morning and evening with cow's milk or water cures gonorrhoea.
2. Jaundice:
Mixing 10 grams of tamarind bark ash with 40 grams of goat's urine is beneficial.
It is useful to soak tamarind in water, churn it and drink the water.
3. Headache:
Soak tamarind in water, add some sugar to it and drink it 2 or 3 times in the morning and evening to get rid of headache.
Soak 10 grams of tamarind in 1 glass of water, mash it a little, filter it and add sugar to it and drink it to get rid of headache caused by bile. Powder or ash of tamarind bark put in hot water and drink it to get relief from headache.
4. For rat poison:
Mix 40 grams of tamarind and 20 grams of dhamasa in old ghee and eat it for 7 days to get rid of rat poison.
5. Pain in the eyes:
Heat the green leaves of tamarind and castor leaves and extract its juice, then mix puffed alum and gram of opium in a copper vessel and soak a cloth in it and keep it in the eyes. This gives relief in eye pain.
6. Indigestion (chronic constipation):
Burning the upper bark of tamarind and consuming about 6 grams of it with hot water before going to bed gives relief in indigestion.
7. Lack of appetite:
Make chutney of tamarind leaves and eat it, the appetite increases.
8. On intoxication of cannabis:
By melting tamarind and drinking its water, the intoxication of cannabis goes away.
9. Lack of appetite and bile:
Tamarind which is ripe from inside and has more pulp should be put in cold water and sugar should be added to it. After this, add cardamom seeds, cloves, camphor and black pepper to it and gargle repeatedly. This cures loss of appetite and bile disease.
10. Constipation and bile:
Heat 1 kg tamarind in 2 liters of water for 12 hours, when half the water evaporates, add 2 kg sugar to it. Make it like a sherbet and drink 20 grams to 50 grams daily at night for constipation patients and in the morning for bile patients as soon as they wake up.
11. Indigestion and lack of appetite:
Take old tamarind equal to betel nut, put it in 250 ml water in a tin vessel and soak it. When it melts well, mash it well with hands and take out its water in another tin vessel and then add black salt, cumin seeds and sugar to it and fry asafoetida in ghee and temper it. This tamarind water is very tasty and is used to cook food.
12. Bile disorder:
Take about 1 kg tamarind at night and soak it in water in a tin vessel. Let it remain soaked overnight. Next day, put the vessel with water on the stove, when it boils well, filter it and add 2 kg sugar to it and make syrup. Giving it in 10-10 grams quantity calms the bile and also stops vomiting. This is called tamarind syrup.
13. Intoxication (intoxication due to alcohol, cannabis etc.):
Take 30 grams of tamarind and dates, 10-10 grams of black grapes, pomegranate seeds, phalsa and amla and soak them in half a kilo of water. After it is well soaked, filter it. Drinking this syrup in small quantity when intoxicated, reduces the intoxication.
14. Vomiting and acidity:
Burn the bark of tamarind along with its peel. Then add 10 grams of ash to water and drink it. This stops vomiting immediately. In case of burning sensation and vomiting due to acidity, this water should be given after food.
15. Scorpion poison:
Grate the soaked seeds of tamarind, when its white part is visible, apply it on the sting. This seed will suck the poison and fall off on its own.
