Introduction

In India, Paan is not only used for eating but also in worship, yagna, havan, cultural functions, welcoming guests etc. Paan is produced in places like Bihar, West Bengal, Banaras, Sanchi etc. Due to being produced in different places, Paan is known by the names Madrasi, Bangla, Kapuri, Mahoba, Banarasi, Malvi, Viola, Maharajpur, Desi etc. Out of all these, Paan from Banaras is the best. Properties Paan makes the mind happy, strengthens the heart, liver, stomach and brain, creates joy and happiness, urinates freely and destroys defects, clears the voice of the throat, eliminates defects of teeth and mouth, strengthens the body and increases appetite. Harmful effects People with hot temperament should not eat Bangla Paan on an empty stomach in the morning. Excessive consumption of Paan causes diseases like eye, teeth diseases, lack of virility and loss of appetite. Dryness in the lungs and production of toxins in the intestines is caused by excess of catechu in Paan. Excess of lime in Paan causes damage to teeth and excess of betel nut in Paan produces Arecan poison. Paan mixed with tobacco causes diseases like cancer. Its consumption can weaken the reproductive power of women and may also cause abortion. Consuming Paan on an empty stomach is harmful. A weak person, a person who has consumed poison or who is unconscious and a patient who is bleeding from the mouth, nose, ears or anywhere else should stop eating Paan. Treatment for various diseases 1. Breast diseases: Massaging and fomenting the breasts of women with betel leaf juice removes the swelling of the breasts and clears the milk. 2. Breast swelling: If the child of a woman has died and her breasts are swollen due to milk accumulation, then by heating betel leaf and tying it on the breasts of such women, the swelling of their breasts decreases and the milk accumulated in the breasts comes out. 3. For contraception: Mixing betel leaf juice and honey in equal quantity and washing the vagina before intercourse and grinding betel leaf root with black pepper in equal quantity and consuming 1 teaspoon of it every morning and evening prevents pregnancy. 4. Mouth ulcers: Mixing betel leaf juice in honey and applying it on ulcers 2-3 times daily is beneficial. If there are blisters in the mouth, dry the betel leaf and chew it. 5. Scorpion bite: Grating dry ginger in betel juice and applying it on the scorpion bitten area gives relief. 6. Thirst: Thirst is quenched by mixing a little peppermint in betel juice. Eating betel reduces thirst.

7. Cough:

In case of dry cough, put 1-2 grams of parsley in a plain betel leaf, eat it, drink hot water over it and then go to sleep. This cures dry cough, asthma and respiratory problems.

Mixing betel fruit with honey and licking it 2-3 times a day gives relief from cough.


Grating 240 mg of nutmeg with betel and consuming it gives relief from cough.

Making children lick 3 ml of betel juice with honey gives great relief from cough.

Mixing honey in betel juice and consuming it 1-2 times a day ends cough.


To get rid of dry cough, keep two pinches of carom seeds on a green betel leaf and chew the betel leaf and slowly take the juice down the throat.

If cough keeps on recurring, then put a piece of roasted turmeric in the betel leaf and eat it.
If cough lasts for a long time at night, put carom seeds in the betel leaf and eat it and keep swallowing the betel juice.

Feeding the powder made by grinding the betel fruit with honey to the patient relieves cough by removing mucus.


Putting 1 clove, a piece of roasted turmeric and a little carom seeds in a betel leaf and eating it 2 to 3 times provides relief from cough.

8. Impotence:

Impotence can be cured by tying a betel leaf on the penis of a man and applying 10 drops of Malakangni oil on the betel leaf and taking it 2 to 3 times a day for a few days.
During this experiment, you can consume milk and ghee in large quantities.

9. Injury:

Apply lime and catechu on betel leaf, add some tobacco to it and grind it, then warm it and tie it on the injury. This relieves pain and the wound heals quickly.


Mixing some lime in betel leaf juice and tying a bandage on the swelling reduces pain and swelling.

Applying betel leaf on the injured area is beneficial.

10. Constipation in children:

Applying a little ghee and salt on the stalk of betel leaf and applying it in the anus will start diarrhea and the constipation will be cured.


11. Asthma:

Giving about 5 to 10 ml of betel leaf juice with honey or ginger juice to the patient 3-4 times a day cures asthma or breathing problem.

Consuming Gajpippali powder by keeping it in betel leaf cures breathing problem.

Grind Bengali Paan and squeeze it in a cloth and extract 500 ml of juice. Similarly, take 500 ml each of ginger and pomegranate juice. Along with this, take 60 grams of black pepper and 80 grams of Choti Peepal and grind them together, add 1 kg of sugar candy and make syrup on low flame.
Consuming this syrup in the amount of 10-10 grams every day cures diseases like cough, breathing problem and fever and increases appetite.

Eating Javitri by keeping it in Paan is beneficial in asthma. Applying equal amount of lime and catechu in Paan and adding 1 cardamom and 2 black peppers and sucking it slowly gives relief in asthma.


12. In case of hoarseness:

Keeping a piece of Paan root in the mouth and sucking it 3-4 times opens up the hoarseness and the throat will become clear.

13. Fever:

Heating the betel juice and giving it to the patient in the amount of 1 teaspoon 3 times a day is very beneficial in fever.
Heating about 3 ml of betel juice and giving it to the patient 2-3 times a day stops fever.
Mixing 6 ml of betel juice, 6 ml ginger juice and 6 grams of honey and consuming it in the morning and evening cures fever.

14. Heart disease:

In case of irregular heart rate, high blood pressure, mixing 1 teaspoon of betel juice and the same amount of sugar candy and consuming it controls the heart rate and reduces blood pressure.

Use of betel is beneficial in heart weakness. It can be used in place of digitalis.
Drinking betel syrup increases the strength of the heart, removes phlegm and Mandagni (disease of less appetite).

15. Hives:

Put 3 betel leaves (Nagarbel) and 1 spoon alum in water, grind them and massage the area where hives (rashes appear on the body due to heat) to cure hives.


16. Kidney diseases:

Consumption of betel leaf is beneficial in kidney diseases.

17. Liver pain:

Applying betel leaf oil on the chest, heating it and tying it gives relief in liver pain and swelling of the windpipe.

18. Cough and cold:

Put cloves in betel leaf and eat it.
If cough keeps on coming then put a piece of roasted turmeric in betel leaf and eat it. If cough keeps on coming more at night then put carom seeds in betel leaf and eat it. If children get cold then applying oil on betel leaf, heating it and tying it on the chest gives relief.

19. Boil:

By heating and binding betel leaves on boils, swelling and pain are reduced and it is cured soon.

20. Sweet voice:

Sucking betel root makes the voice sweet. Kulanjan (betel root) is very beneficial in removing phlegm accumulated in the throat and curing voice defects in voice distortion.

Eating betel leaves makes the voice sweet.
