Introduction
Karonda trees are found in hilly areas. Its trees are thorny and 6 to 7 feet tall. There are thorns near the leaves of Karonda. Its flowers are fragrant and the fruits are round, small and green in colour. The fruits become black when ripe. Pickles are made from raw Karonda and its wood is used for burning. There is also a foreign Karonda which is found in India. Its fruit is a little bigger and beautiful to look at. It is used more in the form of pickle and chutney.
Properties
Karonda increases appetite, calms bile, stops thirst and stops diarrhea. Raw Karonda is heavy and increases appetite. It stops stool and generates interest. Ripe Karonda is light. It removes the defects of Vata, Pitta, Kapha and cleanses the blood. It destroys the effects of poison.
Harmful effects
Using it excessively increases blood-bile and phlegm.
Treatment for various diseases
1. Itching:
Itching is cured by rubbing the root of bitter karonda in water or sesame oil.
2. Worms in the wound:
Worms are killed by rubbing the root of karonda in water like sandalwood and applying it on the wound after diluting it.
3. Snake bite:
In case of snake bite, the root of bitter karonda should be rubbed in water and given to the patient to drink. This removes the poison of the snake.
4. Erysipelas Surkhvad:
Grinding the root of karonda with camphor in lemon juice and applying it on watery blisters or boils is beneficial.
5. Relapsing fever:
Making a decoction of karonda leaves and giving it in the amount of 20 to 40 ml to the patient suffering from relapsing fever calms down the fever.
6. Cough:
Mixing honey in the juice of karonda leaves cures cough.
7. Bleeding gums:
Eating karonda fruit cures bleeding gums.
8. Acidity (sour belching):
Mixing half a teaspoon of karonda juice and 2 pinches of ground cardamom seeds and consuming it cures acidity.
9. Ascites:
Drink karonda leaves juice in the amount of 10 grams on the first day, then increase the amount by 10-10 grams every day and drink it till 100 ml. Drinking karonda leaves juice continuously for one month in this way cures water retention in the stomach.
Grating the bitter karonda root in cow urine and giving it to a patient suffering from ascites cures ascites.
10. Heart disease:
Karonda is very useful in curing heart disease. Eating karonda vegetable prepared by adding jaggery is beneficial.
11. Epilepsy:
Epilepsy attacks stop by grinding 50 Karonda leaves and mixing them in buttermilk and drinking it daily for 15 days. It is especially beneficial in epilepsy attacks caused by bile.
Epilepsy is cured by grinding 30 Karonda leaves in buttermilk and eating it continuously for 15 days. This remedy is especially useful in bile-induced epilepsy.
