Introduction
Harad tree is found all over India. Usually its tree is 18 to 24 meters high. At some places its trees are up to 30 meters high. Its stem is strong, long, straight and the bark is dark. Its leaves are 3 to 8 inches long and about 2 inches wide similar to Adhatoda leaves. Harad is known by many names in Sanskrit. Such as Haritaki, Abhaya, Shaktashrashta, Amrita, Nandini, Rohini, Jeevanti, Shreyasi, Girija etc. Harad is found in abundance in Madhya Pradesh, Himalayan region, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar and South India. Most of the Harad is found in Assam. Harad trees are found in abundance in the forests of the Himalayan valleys. The circumference of Harad trees spreads from 240 to 300 cm. Ayurveda has divided Harad into seven parts. 1. Vijaya 2. Rohini 3. Putana 4. Chetki 5. Amrita 6. Abhaya 7. Jeevanti.
Properties
According to Ayurvedic opinion, all five tastes are found in Harad - sweet, spicy, bitter, astringent and sour. It is astringent in taste, light in quality, dry, hot in nature, sweet in digestion, destroys the three doshas, increases life span, is nutritious, increases digestion power, provides intelligence, strengthens, is a digestive, cleanses the excreta, diuretic, removes gas, is beneficial for the eyes, removes old age. It is beneficial in stomach pain, vomiting, hiccups, pain, stomach worms, piles, constipation, cough, breathing, liver-spleen, fever, malaria, diarrhea, stones, eye diseases, jaundice and diabetes.
Harmful effects
Harad causes irritation in the intestines.
Treatment for various diseases
1. Mouth ulcers:
By rubbing Choti Harad in water and applying it on ulcers 3 times a day, mouth ulcers are cured. By grinding Choti Harad finely and applying it on ulcers, mouth and tongue ulcers are cured.
By sucking Choti Harad after dinner at night, ulcers are cured. Take 1 teaspoon of ground Harad with hot milk or hot water every night before sleeping. This provides relief from ulcers.
2. Gas:
By sucking Choti Harad one by one completely 3 times a day, stomach gas is cured. Soak Choti Harad in water. By chewing it after dinner, stomach is cleansed and gas is reduced. Grind Harad, Nishoth, Jawakhar and Peelu in equal quantities and make powder. Taking half of this powder in the morning and evening after meals is beneficial.
3. Wound:
Burn the harad and grind it, add Vaseline to it and apply it on the wound. This will be beneficial. Eating 3-5 harad and drinking Giloy decoction on top of it relieves the pain and burning sensation of the wound.
4. Eczema:
Grinding harad in cow urine and applying the prepared paste 2-3 times a day cures eczema.
5. Stomach diseases of children (abdominal):
Grating harad every week and consuming one-fourth spoon of it with honey cures all stomach diseases of children.
6. For intelligence:
Consuming half spoon of harad powder in the morning and evening during meals increases intelligence and physical strength.
7. To increase appetite:
Chewing and eating pieces of harad increases appetite.
8. Thin diarrhea:
Consuming one spoon chutney made by grinding raw harad fruits 3 times a day will stop thin diarrhea.
9. Summer boils, ulcers:
Triphala should be burnt in an iron pan and its ash should be mixed with honey and applied.
10. For sanyameh:
Triphala and giloy decoction should be given.
11. Organism:
Choti harad powder should be given in the morning mixed with cow urine or castor oil or Triphala should be given with milk. Triphala decoction should be mixed with cow urine and cow urine and given.
12. Cough:
Harad and baheda powder should be taken with honey.
13. Pain:
Harad powder should be given with ghee and jaggery.
14. Eye diseases:
Try 7-8 grams of Triphala powder should be put in water at night. In the morning, mash it a little and filter it with a cloth and wash the eyes with the filtered water. All types of eye diseases will be cured in a few days. Take half a teaspoon of harad powder with ghee along with Triphala powder. It provides relief in eye diseases.
15. Burning sensation during urination:
By licking harad powder mixed with honey and eating it, burning sensation and pain during urination goes away. By eating harad powder with buttermilk daily, urinary diseases are cured.
16. Stomach pain due to gas:
By eating 3 grams of harad powder with jaggery, stomach pain due to gas goes away.
17. Intestinal hernia:
By mixing black salt, carom seeds and asafoetida in fine harad powder and eating it in the amount of 5 grams with lukewarm water in the morning and evening or by making a decoction of this powder and drinking it, the disorder of intestinal hernia is cured.
By eating 1-1 gram powder of harad, mulethi, dry ginger with water at night, it is beneficial.
18. Asthma:
Taking 1 or 2 grams of dry ginger and harad decoction with warm water cures asthma. Make powder of harad, baheda, amla and small peepal in equal quantities. Lick it with honey in one gram quantity and cure cough related to asthma. Crush harad, fill it in a chillum and drink it to cure acute asthma.
19. Malaria fever:
Cook 10 grams of harad powder in 100 ml water and make a decoction. Drinking this decoction 3 times a day is beneficial in malaria.
20. Vata-Pitta fever:
Mix and grind harad, baheda, amla, adoosa, patol (parwal) leaves, kutki, bach and giloy and make a decoction. When the decoction cools down, add honey to it and give it to the patient. This ends the vata-pitta fever.
21. Eye infection:
Soak harad in water at night. Wash eyes with that water after filtering it with a cloth in the morning. This will cure redness of the eyes.
