Introduction
The Latin name of Brinjal is Solanum melodina. It is known as Eggplant in English. Brinjal has been found everywhere in India since ancient times. The popularity of Brinjal remains till winter in terms of taste and quality. Therefore, Brinjal is considered as the king of vegetables throughout the winter season. Its taste also changes in the summer months. There are two varieties of Brinjal. Black and white. Black Brinjal is considered more beneficial. There is another variety of Brinjal, but it is inferior in terms of quality. Brinjal with more seeds and soft kunhra are a form of poison. The more soft and tender Brinjal is, the more beneficial and strength enhancing it is considered. Brinjal with more seeds grown in the summer months should not be used. Brinjal should not be eaten during the festival of Diwali. Doing so is beneficial from the point of view of health. There is an outbreak of bile in the month of autumn. Therefore, eating the bile-causing brinjal in this season causes many diseases. Eating brinjal in the months of spring is beneficial.
Brinjal curry prepared in oil and asafoetida is very beneficial for people with airy nature. Eating brinjal in the winter season is beneficial for people with kapha (phlegm) nature and those with even nature.
Properties
Brinjal strengthens the stomach, breaks the knots and softens the bones, releases urine, soothes the pains of summer, rubbing the tip of the brinjal and applying it on piles is beneficial, its fomentation with aamba haldi is beneficial for injury. Brinjal is bitter, increases appetite, is sweet, produces bile, increases strength and increases dhatu (sperm). It is beneficial for the heart, is heavy and beneficial in Vata diseases. Brinjal induces sleep, causes cough, increases phlegm and breath. Long brinjal is the best, it increases digestion power and blood. Raw brinjal eliminates phlegm and bile. Ripe brinjal is alkaline, causes bile and medium brinjal is tridoshanashak, purifies blood and bile. Bharta of brinjal roasted on fire calms bile, eliminates Vata and bile disease. White type of brinjal is especially beneficial for patients suffering from piles.
Harmful effects
It produces flatulence in the stomach and increases piles.
Treatment for various diseases
1. Excessive sweating:
If there is sweating in the palms of the hands and soles of the feet, then extracting juice of brinjal and applying it on the palms and soles will reduce sweating.
2. Bala (Naru) disease:
Bake brinjal and grind it in curd and apply it for 10 days on the area where the hair is coming out, it is beneficial.
Roast a round shaped thick brinjal and grind it and mix it in curd, then apply it for 10 days continuously on the area where the hair is coming out, it is beneficial in Bala disease.
3. In heart disease:
Consuming brinjal regularly is beneficial in heart disease.
4. Mandagni (weak digestion power):
Drinking brinjal and tomato soup removes mandagni and food starts getting digested properly.
5. In malaria fever:
Bake soft brinjal on fire and eat it with jaggery every morning on an empty stomach, it is beneficial in case of enlarged spleen and body turning yellow due to malaria fever.
6. On Datura poison:
Drinking 40 ml of brinjal juice removes the poison of Datura.
7. Stone:
Eating brinjal greens causes more urination and the small stones that have started dissolve and come out with urine.
Bake brinjal on fire and remove its seeds. Then make its bharta and eat it for 15 to 20 days. This dissolves the stone and comes out.
8. Insomnia:
Bake brinjal on fire, mix it with honey and lick it in the evening, it helps in getting good sleep. Doing this experiment daily gives relief in insomnia.
9. Stopped menstruation:
If menstruation comes in less quantity or is not clear, then eating brinjal vegetable, millet bread and jaggery in equal quantity in winter is beneficial. Keep in mind that women with hot nature should not do this experiment.
10. Heaviness in the stomach:
By baking brinjal on fire, adding ajjikhar to it and tying it on the stomach, the heavy stomach becomes light in a short time.
11. Boils, pimples:
By tying brinjal strips on boils, pimples, boils ripen and burst quickly.
12. Swelling of testicles:
By mixing brinjal root in water and applying it on testicles for a few days, swelling and enlargement of testicles gets cured.
13. Flatulence (gas formation):
By adding fresh garlic and asafoetida to brinjal vegetable and eating it, Adhyaman (flatulence, gas) etc. gets cured.
14. Constipation (gas formation):
By drinking brinjal and spinach soup, constipation gets cured and digestion power increases.
By cooking brinjal on low flame and eating it, constipation gets cured.
15. Earache:
Roast brinjal on fire and extract its juice. Then mix neem gum in it, warm it and put it drop by drop in the ear, this ends the earache.
16. Liver disease:
In case of liver enlargement, making brinjal bharta and feeding it to the patient is very beneficial. Make bharta in an iron pan with mustard oil and use red chilli in it, this reduces liver enlargement.
17. For ascites:
Cut a big brinjal and put cold nausadar inside it and keep it in an open place at night. In the morning, squeeze it and fill 4 to 5 drops of this juice in batasha and give it to the patient, this will cure the disease of ascites (water filling in the stomach) by urinating more.
18. Spleen enlargement (spleen):
Eating fresh long brinjal vegetable provides relief in the disease of enlargement of spleen.
19. Small size of vagina:
Grind dried brinjal and keep it in vagina, it shrinks and becomes smaller.
20. Enlargement of hernia:
Roasting Maru brinjal in hot ashes and cutting it from the middle and tying it on the testicles stops hernia and pain. It is very useful for curing hernia in children.
21. Rickets:
Grind brinjal well and extract its juice and mix a little rock salt in it. Feeding one spoon of this juice to the child after lunch for a few days provides relief in rickets.
