Nirgundi Properties And Ayurvedic Treatments

 


Introduction

Nirgundi plants grow on their own all over India. Its plants are found in large quantities in hot regions. It is planted on the ridges of fields, in gardens and even in homes. Crushing Nirgundi leaves gives a special kind of foul smell.


Properties

Nirgundi calms Kapha Vata. It removes pain and increases intelligence. It destroys swelling, wounds, hair diseases and harmful germs. It is a digestive power enhancer, a general digestive, a liver stimulant, a cough-cough reliever, a diuretic and being hot, it brings clear menstruation.
It is used for leprosy, itching, fever, pus coming from ears, headache, penis weakness, sciatica, indigestion, urethra (presence of metal in urine), weakness, eye disease and to increase milk in women's breasts.

Harmful effects

Consuming Nirgundi in excess quantity can cause headache, burning sensation and adverse effects on kidney.
Quantity: 10 to 20 ml of Nirgundi leaf juice, 1 to 3 grams of root bark powder, 3 to 6 grams of seed and fruit powder can be taken.

Treatment of various diseases


1. Injury, swelling:

Make a paste by grinding Nirgundi leaves.
Applying this paste on injury or swelling or tying a bandage of it on the injured or swollen part provides relief from pain and the wound heals quickly.

2. Epilepsy:

Putting 5 to 10 drops of Nirgundi leaves in the nose during the attack gives relief in epilepsy.


3. Arunshika (Varahi):

The head should be washed with Nirgundi decoction.

4. Ear diseases:

Mixing the juice of Nirgundi leaves in pure oil, with honey and putting 1 to 2 drops in the ear gives relief in ear diseases.

Cough:

Taking 12 to 24 ml of Nirgundi leaves juice with pure milk twice a day cures cough.

6. Goiter:


Consume 14 to 28 ml of Nirgundi leaves juice 3 times a day. Grind the roots of Nirgundi and put it in the nose.


7. For teething in children:


Hanging the root of Nirgundi around the neck of a child helps in teething quickly.

Make a garland of small pieces of Nirgundi (Sambhalu) root with black or red thread and tie it around the neck of the child.


8. Phlegm fever (fever):


Giving juice of Nirgundi leaves or 10 ml decoction of Nirgundi leaves mixed with 1 gram of peepal powder reduces phlegm fever and swelling of lungs.

Mixing half a gram of black pepper powder in one dose of 30-40 ml decoction of Nirgundi leaves and drinking it provides relief from phlegm fever.


Put one or two cloves of celery and garlic in Nirgundi oil and make the oil slightly lukewarm. Massage with this oil is beneficial in case of fever, pneumonia, chest tightness caused by cold.

9. Puerperal fever:


Using Nirgundi provides relief in puerperal fever and the uterus contracts and the internal swelling goes away.


10. Easy delivery (fertility):


Grind Nirgundi and apply on the navel, abdomen (lower portion of the navel) and vagina to facilitate easy delivery.

11. Gonorrhea:

Make a decoction of Nirgundi leaves and take it in the first stage of gonorrhea.
If the patient has stopped urinating, boil 20 grams of Nirgundi leaves in 400 ml water. When one-fourth of the decoction is left, take it off and let it cool. Give 10-20 ml of this decoction every day in the morning, afternoon and evening to the patient to urinate.

12. Shleepad (Pilpaav):

Mixing dhatura, castor root, nirgundi (sambhalu), punarnava, drumstick bark and mustard together and applying it gives relief in shleepad.

13. In slip disc:

If there is swelling due to sciatica, slip disc and muscle shock, then giving 5 grams of nirgundi bark powder or decoction of leaves cooked on low flame in the amount of 20 ml 3 times a day is beneficial.


14. Kaam Shakti (Sex Power):

Grind 40 grams of nirgundi and 40 grams of dry ginger together. Make 8 doses of it. Consuming one dose of it daily with milk increases sexual power.

Weakness is removed by rubbing nirgundi and applying it on the sexual organ.


15. Naaru (disease caused by drinking dirty water):

10-20 ml juice of Nirgundi leaves is beneficial by drinking it in the morning and evening and fomenting with the leaves.

16. For all diseases:

Consuming Nirgundi with Shilajit is beneficial.

Wounds:

Applying oil made from Nirgundi leaves helps in healing even the oldest wounds.

Applying oil extracted from Nirgundi roots and leaves cures wounds caused by rabies, itching and smallpox etc.

18. Closed knot:

By heating Nirgundi leaves and tying them on the closed knot, the knot gets dispersed.


19. Tetanus:

Giving 3 to 5 ml juice of Nirgundi with honey three times a day is beneficial in tetanus.

20. Fever:

Boil 20 grams of Nirgundi leaves in 400 ml water, when about 100 ml is left, take off this decoction.
Sprinkle 2 grams of peepal powder in this decoction and drink 10-20 ml in the morning and evening. It is beneficial in cold (coryza), fever and heaviness of head.

Boil 10 grams of Nirgundi leaves in 100 ml water and drink it in the morning and evening.

Giving 14 to 28 ml of Nirgundi leaves juice with honey twice a day is beneficial.
