Difference between fistula and piles

Many people get confused about piles and fistula, while there is a huge difference between the two. In piles, the vein outside the anus swells and becomes thick and comes out as big as a grape seed. In case of severe constipation, it bursts and starts bleeding. Whereas when it happens inside the anus, it is called fistula, which is a serious problem.

Prevention

  • If you have ever had a pimple, boil etc. near the anus, then you should take precautions to avoid fistula.
  • In case of constipation or dry stool, take adequate amount of fiber.
  • Consume more fluids/drinks. Avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine (tea-coffee).
  • Do not hold back bowel movement. Even if it is very important, do not hold it for too long.

Testing fistula


Some fistulas are easy to detect and some are difficult.
Sometimes it heals on its own and sometimes it reoccurs after healing.

To detect it, the doctor checks for signs of leakage and bleeding from the anus. Colonoscopy may also be required to detect it. In this, a tube with a camera is inserted into your anus, the inside of the anus and rectum is observed.


Treatment
