Anacyclus Pyerthrum (Akarkara) is a famous herb of India and Arabia. It is believed that the knowledge of this medicine was spread in India by Greek doctors. Greek doctor 'Dios Kuridas' has described this medicine by the name of Pythron. The Latin word Pyrashram has originated from this word.Form
As soon as the first rain of the rainy season falls, small plants of this medicine start coming out. From its root itself, a bunch of leaves like rose flowers and many branches emerge. The branches are hairy and spread on the ground, only the tips of the branches are raised upwards. Its branches, leaves and flowers are like white babool, but the stalk is hollow. The flowers emerge on the branches in round, clustered, umbrella-shaped heads. They are yellow in colour. The fruit is oblong-shaped leathery fruit or achene, which has a small pappus. The root of Akarkara is curved and long. These roots are used in medicine. This medicine does not spoil for 7 years.Chemical composition
The main active element of the root of Akarkara is an extract called pyrethrin. It is obtained in the form of colourless crystals. Apart from this, partially volatile oil, fixed oil, 50 percent inulin element is found.Properties

Medicinal use
Chewing this medicine with Rumi Mastagi cures epilepsy caused by contaminated doshas. Since this medicine has a high amount of wind-destroying properties, it is beneficial to grind it with olive oil and massage it in sciatica, arthritis, wind-induced head disease, back pain, hunchback, neck stiffness, joint pain etc.Diarrhea and stomach diseases- Taking its powder with dry ginger cures poor digestion and flatulence. Its use is also very beneficial in ascites. By giving its 14 ratti dose after grinding, it forcefully removes phlegm through laxative. Taking this medicine makes the voice of children and singers melodious.
Heart disease-Mixing Arjuna bark and Pellitory powder in equal quantity and grinding them and consuming half a teaspoon twice a day is beneficial in nervousness, heart palpitations, pain, tremors and weakness.
By boiling 20-25 milligrams of Kulanjan, dry ginger and Pellitory in 400 milliliters of water and giving the fourth decoction to drink, heart disease is cured. Fever and cold- By cooking this medicine with olive oil and massaging, fever comes down with sweating.
Applying its hot decoction on the head and rubbing it on the palate cures cold and catarrh.
Giving 500 milligrams of this powder with 4-6 drops of chiraita extract cures persistent fever.
Semen related diseases- Giving this medicine with various medicines is very beneficial in increasing semen, sexual arousal and erection. People with cold nature get more benefit from this medicine. Massaging the male organ with its oil increases sexual power.
Dental diseases - Keeping decoction of Akarkara in mouth strengthens loose teeth.
Soaking its root in vinegar and pressing it under the tooth relieves toothache
It is useful in treating cough.
Rubbing its powder on the tongue removes the stiffness of the tongue and eliminates stammering.
Hiccups - In case of hiccups, lick 1 gram of Akarkara powder with honey.
Cough - Making its decoction and drinking it cures old dry cough. Smelling its fine powder removes asphyxiation caused by blocked nose.
Consuming 3-4 grams of its powder forcibly expels phlegm through stool.
Menstruation - Drinking 100 ml decoction of Akarkara root in the morning and evening helps in getting the menstrual cycle cured.
Paralysis - Grinding Akarkara root finely and mixing it with mahua oil and massaging with it is beneficial in paralysis.
Licking 500 mg of Akarkara root powder with honey in the morning and evening is beneficial in paralysis.
Ardit - Ardit is cured by drinking 100 ml decoction of it with thatch.
Mixing Akarkara powder and mustard powder in honey and applying it on the tongue cures hemiplegia.
Emptiness - Consuming 1 gram of its powder with 2-3 cloves cures emptiness of the body and drinking 100 ml decoction of its root cures laziness.
Akarkadi Churna - Akarkara, rock salt, chitrak, amla, carom seeds and harad - 1 tola each and 2 tolas dry ginger. Filter all of them and add Bijora or lemon juice to it. Taking 3-3 mashas of this powder in the morning and evening cures diseases like sinus, epilepsy, mania, cough, breathing problem, poor digestion, lack of appetite etc.
Pellitory oil - Grind one chhatank of pellitory powder and boil it with two seers of water. When one-fourth of the water remains, take it off and filter it and add some pure black sesame oil and boil it on low flame. When the water burns and oil remains, cool it and store it in a bottle.
All types of cold and cough are cured by using it.
