Introduction to the disease, causes, symptoms
This disease is also known by the names of Hyper Acidity, Acid Dyspepsia and Gastroxia. When the acid quality in bile increases due to the consumption of substances like marihudi, then it is called 'Amal Pitta'. It can also be said in this way that when there is an excess of 'acid juice' in the stomach, then it is known as 'Amal Pitta'. Due to improper digestion of food, the stomach becomes more excited, due to which hydrochloric acid (HCI) starts getting produced in the stomach, as a result of which the patient starts getting sour burps repeatedly. Since 'Amal Pitta' is a bile-borne disorder, hence it has been named 'Amal Pitta'. By consuming salt, sour foods and very hot and spicy things, the 'pitta' gets agitated and the acid juice starts getting produced in abundance. This is 'amlapitta'. This is not an independent disease but is only a symptom of many diseases. The main causes of this disease are given below-
• This disease is caused due to excess of acid in the stomach (Pak Sthali). In normal condition, the 'hydrochloric acid' secreted from small glands situated inside the Pak Sthali helps in digestion of food, but when this acid starts getting produced in excess quantity, then the patient feels burning sensation in the food pipe behind the chest bone. This acid is usually produced in excess due to the following reasons-
• Mental tension and hurry in every work.
• Consumption of more chilli-masala, hot spices and pickles etc. in food.
• Eating fried and spicy food- after eating to the fullest, without walking/sitting at night (lying on the bed immediately after eating or sleeping.)
• Not taking food at the right time.
• Excessive consumption of smoking and alcohol.
• Consuming more tobacco, lime and catechu.
• Chronic encephalitis and hiatal hernia.
• Ulcers of stomach and pancreas (gastroduodenal ulcer).
• Due to improper digestion of carbohydrates, fermentation of sugar takes place, due to which acid is produced and the patient starts feeling burning sensation in the chest.
• Consuming fat, raw or half-cooked meat etc., smoking excessively, consuming intoxicants like excessive alcohol etc. Consuming excessive tea, coffee etc.
• Not chewing food properly and tooth decay etc. • Pittasmari, chronic appendicitis, gastric ulcers and diseases causing obstruction in duodenum.
• Remember that sour foods, alcohol and physical exertion increase this disease. The main symptoms of this disease are given below-
Nausea, bitter and sour belching, heaviness in the body, burning sensation in the heart region and throat, loss of appetite and flatulence, colic and loss of strength in the limbs, pain in the head, burning sensation in the area of the anus and watery stools, appetite is usually normal but very sour belching, restlessness in the heart region and fast heartbeat, sour belching and bad taste in the mouth, pain in the stomach and pain in the navel region, sometimes pain in diarrhea, sometimes severe gas, pain and cramps in the stomach, burning sensation in the eyes and on the forehead and burning sensation in the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet, urine is red-yellow in colour, stool feels hot during defecation (that is, Pitta causes burning and burning sensation in the entire body.
In the initial stage of this disease, the symptoms of burning are less visible, but when the disease increases, the symptoms of burning start appearing more. The patient constantly feels as if he has a mild fever in his body, but this symptom does not go away by taking fever medicine, not only this, this fever is not detected by the fever measuring instrument (thermometer). The patient's appetite decreases. He starts suffering from weakness, fatigue, pain in the legs, dizziness, darkness in front of the eyes, etc. The patient's stool remains loose. Some patients also complain of constipation. When the amount of acid-bile increases too much, small pimples appear on the body and the patient also feels mild itching. There is pain in the joints. There is restlessness. There is no desire to eat. Sleep also decreases. Many times the patient has also been seen bleeding. If the effect of acid-bile continues for a long time, then the patient starts feeling the clear effect of heat.
The patient's hair starts falling and turning grey. The patient's nature becomes irritable and angry. Due to disturbance in the stomach, the patient has a tendency to feel nauseous and vomit. When vomiting occurs, first food-borne and then mucous spittle comes out which is sour-bitter and has a foul smell. This acidic sputum causes a burning sensation in the food system. (That is why medical scientists have named it 'Amal Pitta'.) Actually, it is the increase of mucus (mucus-lapkhad) and decrease of pittaagni (fire of bile). Due to the release of water in large quantities through vomiting, the patient feels very thirsty. Due to the intoxication-like toxicity (Taxaemia), the patient becomes weak. He gets cold sweat (cold sweat) and gets headache. Due to excessive loss of water from the body, the pulse of the patient becomes weak and fast and the temperature drops a bit.
After the irritant is removed from the stomach of the patient through vomiting, if no other food is taken for 48 hours except for little water, then the patient's pain subsides automatically.
Specific-
In Ayurveda, it is said in relation to 'Agni' that our age, strength, complexion, health, enthusiasm, growth, radiance, vigor, brilliance, metal digestive fires, prana, apana, samana, vyana, udana etc. vital powers are all dependent on digestive fire, i.e. both Vayu and Kapha are dependent on Agni. Till then, there is five fire in our human body and when it gets calmed, we die. It is only when Agni gets distorted that various types of diseases arise.
That is why Maharishi Vagbhatta ji says that-
Tasmadgni palyet sarvayatlaast smibhishteyati na nashamev, doshairpragte grasyate roga sanghairyuktetu syabhisjo long life.
'Prana Vayu' which works like breathing and inhalation, brings food to the stomach, where the mucous present there makes a soft solution of it. Thereafter, the 'Samaana Vayu' present in the stomach activates the digestive fire, which properly cooks the consumed food, i.e., converts it into juice and stool.
In 'Ayurveda', four types of 'Agni' have been mentioned - slow, sharp, uneven and even. Many people have even fire and some people have slow fire, i.e., those who are naturally of 'Kapha' nature/mood or in whom Kapha increases, suffer from (Hypochlorhydria). Some people have sharp fire, i.e., people with Pitta nature/mood suffer from Pitta-enhancing reasons
(Hyperchlorhydria). Some people have abnormal Agni i.e. people with Vata nature/temperament (Hyposthenic Temperament) have weakness in the stomach (Hypotonia) due to Vata increasing reasons, due to which gastric secretion reduces even due to small/minor reasons and Agni improves with feelings of happiness etc.

Ayurvedic treatment formula for acidity
Generally, in acidity, Kapha-Pitta destroying treatment should be done. For this, emetic and purgation are the best treatments. Mainly in upward acidity, emetic (kaya) should be done and in lower acidity, purgation/purgatory (dastavar) i.e. laxative should be done. After that, if the doshas are not pacified, then bloodletting should also be done by cutting the vein in a judicious manner. For the main dosha, sedative treatment should be done and the patient should be given food accordingly.
Diet and supportive treatment
In this disease, do not let the patient consume flour based food, heavy (takes time to digest) food, potatoes, excess sugar, jaggery, chillies and sour food items. Give eggs in the morning, light food in the afternoon, buttered toast in the afternoon and light food in the evening/night.
